“So no one told you life was gonna be this way…”

Last week’s sickie episode appears to be flaring up again. I’ve spent all day in bed watching Friends DVDs between naps.

Woke up with a sore throat, and started to feel really tired and nauseous around lunch time yesterday. Sucked it up and stayed at work for the day but immediately crashed as soon as I got home.  I slept from 4pm yesterday until 7am this morning.   Guys its bad.  I can barely move I am that lethargic. :(  My throat is so swollen that I can barely swallow.  I’ve been living off chicken soup and ice cream.

I’m going to the doctors this evening so hopefully they will prescribe something to help me out.

I’ve had a bit of time to think (obviously!) about Vanessa’s post “The Big Question(s).”  For the past 6 months I haven’t been losing weight.  I eat well and exercise on a regular basis but cutting calories just isn’t happening.  This needs to change.  Just because I’m comfortable doesn’t mean that I'm where I want to be.  So here’s my take on the Big Questions…

1. What do you want to happen?
I want to lose 45 lbs, putting my weight at 150lbs.  I also want to keep running but without the pressures of having to “be at a certain place at a certain time.”  I started running because I enjoyed it and it’s silly to make it a chore.  If I don’t run a half marathon this Fall, there is always next Fall.

2. What will it take to get you there?

  • Losing 45 lbs – Stick to 1500 calories per day.  Any exercise calories I burn only eat half of in order to ensure a deficit.  Track my foods/activity on a daily basis to stay accountable.  Exercise 45 mins x 4 days week.  Also need to cut back on eating out, once a week is plenty.
  • Running – stick to a routine of at least 3 times a week so that I don’t lose my running abilities.  Sign up for events that are achievable (ie 5 &10Ks)

3. Are you willing to put in the effort?
Yes, because I want these things more than I want anything else at this point in my life.  I NEED to finish what I started, once and for all.  I know that I AM WORTH THE EFFORT.

4. Why do you want it?

  • Losing 45 lbs – I want it so that I will be at a healthy weight and control all weight-related issues. (Diabetes, Cholesterol) Also, so that I’m healthy enough to start a family in the next year or two.    And, last but not least so that I can feel good about myself and wear all kinds of fun clothes. ;)
  • Running – I want it because of the way it makes me feel.  Strong, and powerful; like I can do anything that I set my mind to.  Running really has provided me with lots of confidence so why would I stop participating in something so beneficial?  I want to be fit and a good example to my future children.

This was a great, thought provoking exercise, thanks Vanessa!

Alright bloggies, I’m off to get ready for the doctors, more later.
